High School Completion Programs

EdAdvance Adult & Continuing Education offers various pathways for adults working towards their high school diploma.

Our programs are designed to support a diverse range of individuals.

EdAdvance Adult & Continuing Education offers three pathways to earn a high school diploma...

General Educational Development (GED®)

The GED® consists of four subject assessments: Mathematics, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. The test is computer-based, allowing you to take each subject individually at your own pace. Earning a GED® provides you with the opportunity to apply to most colleges, universities, and vocational schools, opening doors to further education and career opportunities.

For test takers 17 or 18 years old: Individuals who are either 17 or 18 years old at the time of GED® registration must document that they have been officially withdrawn from high school. Individuals 17 years old must submit a withdrawal form dated on or after their 17th birthday with parent/guardian and school administrator signatures, and must wait 6 months from the withdrawal date to test.

For test takers 21 years old or older: Individuals who are 21 or older and non-veterans must pay a one-time $13 registration fee to take the GED® test (veterans are free). This fee includes all four subject exams, any exam retakes, if necessary, and the cost of issuing a diploma upon completing all four parts of the test.

Credit Diploma Program (CDP)

The Credit Diploma Program (CDP) offers an alternative pathway for students to meet Connecticut's high school graduation requirements through either on-site or distance learning. This flexible program is designed to accommodate individuals who may have earned 18 or more credits in high school but did not graduate, allowing them to complete their education and receive a high school diploma.

In addition to traditional coursework, students can earn credits for work experience or military service, providing a unique opportunity to leverage life experiences toward graduation. This makes the CDP ideal for adults and non-traditional students looking to finish their high school education on their terms.

Before enrolling, students are required to meet with a School Counselor for a transcript review to determine the credits they've already earned and create a personalized graduation plan.

National External Diploma Program (NEDP)

The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) is designed for self-motivated adults who have life and work experience and are generally familiar with computers. This program allows students to demonstrate high school-level skills by completing a portfolio of academic and life skills tasks. It is ideal for individuals 21 years or older who are highly motivated to earn their high school diploma. With a flexible schedule, the NEDP accommodates the needs of busy adults.
