ServSafe® Food Safety Manager Certification

Become a Certified Food Safety Manager for schools, businesses, or restaurants through ServSafe, the leading food safety certification program recognized across the food service industry. This certification equips you with the essential knowledge and skills to manage food safety practices effectively, whether you work in a school cafeteria, oversee a restaurant, or manage food operations in a business setting.

By completing the ServSafe® Food Safety Manager certification, you'll be prepared to prevent foodborne illnesses, ensure compliance with food safety regulations, and promote a safe dining experience for customers. Whether you're looking to advance in your current role or meet industry standards, this certification is a valuable asset to your career in the food service industry.

Participate in an 8-hour in-person review session conducted by a certified ServSafe® instructor. After completing the review, you'll take the online exam accredited by the National Restaurant Association. Both the review session and exam are held at EdAdvance, 355 Goshen Road, Litchfield.

 

Tuition support may be available through your employer or the American Job Center. Call (860) 496-3500 to inquire about Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding.

Program Enhancement Projects

To enroll in one of the following projects, you must be registered in an ESOL, ABE, or a

High School Completion Program (GED®, CDP, NEDP) course.

Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education with Training

This course goes beyond regular English language instruction to include career readiness and U.S. Citizenship content. Students build employment-related vocabulary, visit American Job Centers and local employers, meet with political representatives, and engage in civic activities. They also learn about the rights and responsibilities of U.S. Citizenship, including the naturalization process, and can enroll in career certification programs like ServSafe® Food Safety Manager or school paraprofessional training. Recommended for intermediate and advanced English Language Learners.

 

Instructional Innovation

Designed for English learners with advanced education or professional backgrounds from their home countries, this course helps students build workplace skills, practice writing for college and professional settings, and bridge past credentials to U.S. employment opportunities. Recommended for intermediate and advanced English Language Learners.

 

Transition, Career Navigation, and Support

For High School Completion students, this course provides insights into local labor market trends, essential skills and credentials for today’s job market, and guidance for planning “next steps” for post-secondary education or employment. Recommended for High School Completion Program students.

 

Technology Integration and Expansion

With support from a Digital Navigator, students will develop essential computer skills, explore common software programs, and learn how to use technology in daily life, including telehealth and cybersecurity. Students will also have the opportunity to earn digital credentials and badges through Northstar Digital Literacy. Open to all students.
